He met a citizen, Changyoung Han in person and heard his civil complaints by a event of "Mayor's Civil Counselling Day". The event was prepared for gathering all citizen's opinions and raising trust and quality about civil services of Bucheon City.

Chanyoung Han living in Jung-3-dong, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon City, suggested "I'm used to go to cycling road by Gyeongin Ara Waterway on my bicycle through Gulpo Waterway. A part of cycling route by Gulpo Waterway is unpaved and wrecked. It will be better if the cycling route by Gulpo Waterway could be fixed."

The mayor of Bucheon City, Mansoo Kim replied "I will fix the unpaved part, 240 meters long and 3 meters wide, of cycling route by Gulpo Waterway this April. And I will install security lamps along the cycling route. Bucheon City Hall will talk with Incheon City Hall to fix parts of cycling route in charge of Incheon City."

Bucheon Community Center Hold Event of "Would You Call My Name?"

Bucheon Community Center Hold Event of "Would You Call My Name?"

Sang-dong Resident Community Center in Bucheon City, South Korea, held a special event for senior citizens last March 25, 2013. At the event, the town chief and colleagues of Sang-dong, a town in Bucheon City, put name tags on three hundred senior's chests, and called their names. It's just like the famous Korean poem "Flower" written by Chunsoo Kim. Here is a part of the poem; "When I call his name, he finally comes to me and becomes a flower."

Don't you think we have been unfamiliar with calling each other's given name? We're used to call just family names with home towns. Calling his or her full name will be helpful to make each other closer.

"I'm not happy when I'm called Ms. Ju, Madam Ju or Grandma Ju. I'm happy that you call my full name, Jeonghwa Ju." said Jeonghwa Ju, 73 years old, with full smile on her face, at Sang-dong Senior Community Center, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon City.

The front of the name tag shows the title, "Please Call My Name", the name of senior community center and owner's name.  Information about senior welfare such as basic senior pension, long life benefits and phone numbers about Sang-dong government offices are written at the rear face of the tags.

Simgok-2-dong, a town of Bucheon City, Recruit City Farmers

What if we could pick off and eat fresh green peppers and cherry tomatoes on the roof garden? What if it's because we could raise these organic vegetables without chemicals? Simgok-2-dong Resident Community Center, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon City is located at the center of Bucheon City. But if you go up to the roof of this building, you can see a wonderful kitchen garden. It is a killing two birds with one stone, getting vegetables and sharing places to communicate between residents.

Simgok-2-dong, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon City made a kitchen garden, 1,157 square meters in size and eco-friendly, on the roof of the community center as a project of 'Better Village' program last year 2012. The volunteers harvested about 300 kilograms of sweet potatoes last October, 2012. The volunteers, residents and the mayor enjoyed steamed sweet potatoes with kimchi and shared delights of harvest. They donated the rest of sweet potatoes to Wonmi Senior Welfare Center in order to treat the elders.

Citizens and visitors to Bucheon can take a 'Smoke-Free Taxi ' in Bucheon City from now on. There are about three thousand taxies in Bucheon City. Bucheon taxies raise the flag saying "No Smoking" high and protect passengers and taxi drivers from passive smoking to prevent hazards caused by smoking and passive smoking.

Bucheon City made an agreement with eight taxi companies in Bucheon to cooperate the program of "Smoke-Free Taxi in Bucheon" which bans smoking inside all taxies in Bucheon eventually to make taxi drivers and passengers healthier, on 11 AM, March 8th, 2013, at Creative Hall, Bucheon City Hall, Bucheon City, South Korea.

Taxi drivers are highly vulnerable to get sick because their long-time driving, lack of workout, and stress from touch traffic can easily lead them to drinking and smoking. Do You Know Two Lee's Troubleshooters in Bucheon City?

Do You Know Two Lee's Troubleshooters in Bucheon City?

If somebody has a trouble at Simgok-1-dong, Bucheon City, definitely there comes Lee, the village foreman. There are two village foremen with the same family name of Lee who solve the problems when someone needs help at Simgok-1-dong, Bucheon City, South Korea. Here are Mr. Cheonbae Lee, the village foreman of 8th village, and Mr. Hyun Lee, the village foreman of 11th village in Simgok-1-dong.

The two Lee's village foremen showed up with their tool boxes and parts after receiving a phone call from Jinmal Center for Senior Citizen on March 6, 2013. They drove nails for a wall-hanging into the wall and fixed the entrance door. And also they made a new door for the warehouse. After that, they went up to the rooftop and unblocked the drain to prepare for the heavy rainfall. They spent a half of the day to do those things.

The two Lee's village foremen have volunteered not only for Senior Community Center but also for other neighbors such as senior citizens who live along, low-income and multi-cultural families for several years.

Who are they? Mr. Cheonbae Lee runs a big restaurant selling fried chickens at Yeongdeungpo, Seoul and has a business about construction. Mr. Hyun Lee is doing a interior business for a living in Bucheon City. It's a perfect job for them to repair facilities of Senior Community Center.

They turned to know that there's so many neighbors in trouble when they worked as a village foreman. Some people have their sons and daughters helpless and don't have any help from governments. They found out lots of people are in blind spot of social welfare system.

Eventually they, the two Lee's village foremen, started to help other people in that blind spot, spending their money to buy rice and side dishes for people in trouble, and responding the calls for their help.

<photo 1: Two Lee's village foremen, Mr. Cheonbae Lee and Mr. Hyun Lee, are fixing a door at Jinmal Senior Community Center, Bucheon City, South Korea. They refused to be taken a photo on their faces. They want to be remain silent and faceless volunteers. Bucheon City is so proud of them. Thank you, Lee's!>

[Trip] Jonny’s Family Go to Mr. Juwang in Cheongsong County(a south-eastern county in South Korea)

[Trip] Jonny’s Family Go to Mr. Juwang in Cheongsong County(a south-eastern county in South Korea)

March 1st is Korean national holiday, the Independence Movement Day in Korea. We’ve got a three-day holiday. My dad made a plan to trip to Cheongsong County, a south-eastern county in South Korea and visit my grandma’s place during the holidays. It’s been a long time to travel a domestic site since last year, 2012.

Cheongsong is famous for Juwangsan National Park(a mountain), Jusanji(a artificial lake on a mountain) and apples. We had a good time in Cheongsong County. Followings are the photos I’ve taken there. We dropped by Jusanji the first day in Cheongsong County and had a short tracking on Juwangsan next morning.

<photo 1: The guest house where my family stayed is located near Juwangsan National Park, Cheongsong County, South Korea. The guest room has one bedroom, a small kitchen and a rest room. The fare was 70 thousand won(KRW) per a night, per 2 persons. They charge additional 10 thousand won per an additional person. The room was clean, cozy and warm. The outer of the house are covered with wooden thick plates, looking like a cabin.>

<photo 1-1: It's a snapshot of a TV advertisement which I and my family watch on the TV in the guest room when we went to a guest house near Mt. Juwang, Cheonsong Province, South Korea. It says "Three generation! Guaranteed Quality assurance during One Hundred Years". It made us BIG laugh to death. The bundle of knives costs $39.9 per a set. Do you believe that the quality assurance on that price? What a excessive bluffing thing as much as Chinese people!>

<photo 2: Jusanji(an artificial lake) is a lake which was built 400 years ago during Joseon Dynasty that was a 500-year long and strong Kingdom just before current Korean government in Korean Peninsula. It was for agricultural use. The official says the lake has not dried even though severe drought since built first. The lake shows beautiful sceneries rising fog in the early morning during the seasons of early summer or late autumn, along with long and old trees in the lake. When we went to the lake, the lake was frozen and the trees have no leaf and look lonely. It would have been better if it’s an early summer season. It’s 10 minutes away from my guest house.>

<photo 3: We ordered to have a dinner, a steamed chicken with natural mineral water. It was served by the restaurant which is also running guest houses we’ve stayed. We enjoyed the dishes, and especially soy sauce seasoned wild edible greens tasted fantastic.>

<photo 4: The First, Second, and Third Falls in Juwangsan(Mt. Juwang) National Park. There are three falls in Mt. Juwang. The mountain is made of strong stones but there’s water streaming all around the year, even during winter season, the driest season in Korea. The running and dropping water has made holes on the rocks for tens of thousands years. The small holes on the rocks have ended up the First, Second, and Third Falls, Juwangsan, Cheonsong County, South Korea.>

<photo 5: The Jangsubong(a peak on Mt. Juwang) seen at the opposite side. The gigantic peaks were made tens of thousands years ago when Korean Peninsula was drowned under the sea. It’s one of the sharpest peaks in mountains in South Korea.>

<photo 6: Bokwangjeon, a building in Daejeonsa(a Buddhist temple) and Jangsubong, a peak on Mt. Juwang, Cheongsong County, South Korea. The Bokwangjeon is the Korean National Treasure #1570. The meaning of ‘Bokwang’ is ‘Spreading lights’. So ‘Bokwangjeon’ means the special building for Buddhists in which the Buddha spreads his lights all around the world. In the building they set up special Buddha’s statues to worship.>
